From prehistoric landscapes to an array of unique flora and fauna, intrepid travellers from all over the world come to discover what Kamchatka tourism has to offer year after year.
Kamchatka Tourism is renowned for its vast natural beauty and deep cultural significance. 56th Parallel’s Kamchatka Discovery tour captures exactly what makes this region of Siberia so special.
With no railways or roads connecting the peninsula to the rest of the world, this naturally rich region is a haven for wildlife watching and nature hikes. This is one of the few places on Earth where you can walk alongside animals, undisturbed in their natural habitats. It is known for its species of brown bears and the incredible range of marine animals and birds.
Kamchatka’s vast landscape is perhaps best viewed from hundreds of feet above the ground: an optional helicopter ride over the steamy Geysers Valley provides spectacular unparalleled views of the peninsula.
On our “Kamchatka Discovery” tour you’ll climb the Avachinsky volcano – the largest active volcano, a challenging but immensely rewarding experience.
The top of Avachinsky provides incredible views of the peninsula’s many peaks and the Avacha river which runs through its base. Cruise across the crystal clear water of Avacha Bay regarded as one of the most pristine areas in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Avacha Bay is rich in its many forms of marine animals and birdlife, many of which you’ll have a chance to see. On the cruise, you may see whales, sea lions and otters, before having a chance to fish in the bay’s untouched Pacific waters.
Get up close with the Kamchatka brown bear and take an optional helicopter flight to the Lake Kurilskoye, Kamchatka’s most revered lake and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Coming into contact with this enormous bear native to the area is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
You’ll be accompanied by an experienced armed ranger and observe brown bears in their natural habitat, playing, swimming and catching salmon from the lake.
Fly to Khodutka hot springs for lunch and spend the afternoon bathing in the Goryachaya River. These hot springs are located in the crater of a volcanic explosion and set against a panoramic mountain backdrop, creating an unforgettable experience for travellers.
Hike around Vachkazhets Mountain – the highest point of which is 1556 m above sea level, one of the most beautiful places on the pristine Kamchatka peninsula. Our hike takes you to the breathtaking waterfalls, giving you the chance to capture the beauty and magnificence of the untouched nature of Kamchatka.
Enjoy slow-pace rafting on a calm part of the Bystraya river. During floating you will be able to enjoy surrounding landscapes, watch birds, maybe even see a brown bear – the host of the forests – and observe salmon spawning.
The Bystraya River runs along the southern part of the Sredinny Ridge. The Bystraya merges with the Plotnikova River, forming the Bolshaya River, one of the biggest rivers in western Kamchatka. It plays a prominent role in the reproduction of western Kamchatkan salmon.
Soak in thermal waters of Kamchatka – Dachnye Hot Springs, located close to a Mutnovsky geothermal power plant, which is the biggest of its kind in Russia.
There are more than 100 thermal developments in the Dachnye hot springs – boiling boilers, hot springs, large and small steam-gas jets. The hot gases of the Dachnye hot springs go through the water of a cold stream, heating it and sometimes creating the fountain effect and this is that fact that lead to the second its name – «The Small Valley of Geysers».
On the way back you will have an opportunity to see the 60-meters Vilyuchinskiy waterfall, that descent down the slopes of a volcano having the same name. Falling vertically down the cliff and being surrounded by snow the waterfall attracts by its beauty.
Visit the Koryak village of Kainyran, where you will witness a colourful Koryak dance performance in traditional Siberian dress, hear local legends, horse ride in the countryside surrounding the village and taste an authentic Koryak dish, oukha, a hot Siberian fish soup.
The peninsula is world-renowned for its many active volcanoes, including Tolbachik in the far east. Getting the chance to witness volcanoes erupt is an unforgettable experience and one of the reasons nature enthusiasts and photographers flock to Kamchatka. Should one of the many peaks erupt during your trip, a helicopter excursion to the surrounding area can be arranged to give a close-up perspective into one of the most incredible Siberian sights you’ll lay eyes on?
